Nagisa Makino & Mayu Kamisaku – Bread Poem

Japanese Text

Bread Poem is a visual exploration of the fragile relationship between Japanese researcher Nagisa Makino and photographer Mayu Kamisaku. Questioning sameness, they approach bliss, pain, and hope through memory of which the body holds. Once queerness was understood as an ongoing transcendence between labels, identities, and individuals, a complex dialogue emerged, intertwining personal voices.

Life histories unfold through a 9 piece sequence. Exploring a perspective so intimate yet distant, it discovers ways of embracing the crave to touch, but never grasping. The soft silhouettes provide a curious and playful view of bodily movements which evoke recollection, inviting the reader to resurrect moments of their own.

Published to commemorate the exhibition Bread Poem, held in August 2025 at platform3/loneliness books in Tokyo, this book was presented at Tokyo Art Book Fair 2025 as an edition of 40.
